BARRY GIFFORD ON THE LONG WAIT FOR ELLIOTT CHAZE’S BLACK WINGS HAS MY ANGEL
Here is an article by Barry Gifford, a former editor over at Black Lizard Books about the forgotten classic Black Wings Has My Angel by Elliott Chaze. Another interesting author and book that time has forgotten. I actually heard about this book over on Goodreads and have it downloaded on my Nook. I hope to read it out soon after reading this article. It also looks like a film adaption is in the works. Maybe this book and author will be rediscovered by a new generation of noir fans. I will check this out. I read in the book’s intro on Amazon that this was the one title that the former editor of Black Lizard most wanted to publish. Black Lizard introduced me to Jim Thompson many years ago, so I have a lot of faith in their editor’s picks.
I also just checked out your post on re-watching De Palma’s Body Double. I have not seen that one, but I did watch another great noir from the 80’s, Body Heat, last night. If you want to pass a couple of hours watching (or re-watching) a really good noir, put that one on your list. It holds up well over time because the story is really good and very well-told.

I have not watched Body Heat in years, but hope to revisit it soon.

I read this on Gifford’s recommendation. And yes, it is one of the great unsung crime novels of the 20th century. If you’re reading this, go out and get a copy! I wrote a brief review that doesn’t give too much away at https://adiamond.me/2016/02/black-wings-has-my-angel/
